Bavarian Wedding

Written by kevin

I spent the last weekend in Germany at the wedding of my friend Peter. He and I were pen-pals at school and have kept in touch ever since, so I was really pleased to get an invitation to his wedding.

Once I’ve had the pictures developed and scanned them in some of them should appear on this site, probably not before the end of the week though.

The wedding itself was great fun, subtly different from a British wedding, and Peter’s parents made me feel like one of the family.

I got a lot of attention from the other guests because I had turned up in my kilt, lots of pictures were taken. I felt like a sort of mascot by the time we walked back to the hotel, hopefully a good luck charm for Alexandra and Peter.

One of the most entertaining parts of the weekend was the traditional redecoration of the happy couple’s flat. I joined Peter’s sister and brother-in-law, and several other friends and relatives in hiding balloons and rice, hanging toilet paper everywhere and hiding lightbulbs and batteries.

Peter and Alexandra were too clever for us though and had secretly arranged to spend the night at the hotel, missing out on their early morning telephone alarm call and the even earlier timed switch-on of the heart-shaped lights above their bed. On the other hand it meant I got to see their reaction the next morning, which certainly appealed to my malicious sense of humour.
