Cold II

Feeling grottier today, achy and bunged up. Still went to work, in order to spread the bugs further.

Cold

Went through to a skidpan near Fakenham yesterday for a bit of sliding around in cars, organised by the IAM (website).

After that we set off for a few beers, then a few more, some food at Yippee Noodles on King Street, another couple of beers and then back to the house for whisky.

Today after a bit of a lie-in it was breakfast at CB2. Didn’t enjoy it all that much as my sense of taste isn’t quite right, I’ve finally caught the cold that my housemates have been suffering from. Time to stock up on Lemsip and soup.

Humbug

Tomorrow I really should do some Christmas shopping. Need to buy cards and some presents as I probably won’t get the opportunity in the next few weeekends.

The other thing to do tomorrow is to take my bike through to my Grandparent’s in Norfolk. It’s going to be spending the winter in their garage away from salt and similar nasty things.

Buckets

As I was driving through Cambridge this morning it seemed that an unusually high number of people were carrying buckets. Must just be one of those things, once I noticed the first one I was more likely to notice others.

Or maybe it’s some kind of weird conspiracy?

Low visibility

Wandered into town this morning, it’s fairly busy as people get into total over-the-top Christmas shopping mood. By the time I started heading back to the house fog had descended on the city.

Walking across Parker’s Piece I could only just make out Parkside Pool from the Reality Checkpoint (photo). A few people were taking photos, I wished I had my camera with me.

Happy Birthday to me

I’m 27 today, seems very old. Went out to the pub last night and was at the Junction on Tueday night to see Ezio so I’ll probably just have a quiet night in.

Laziness is good

I just had a fantastically idle weekend. I was so lazy I didn’t even leave the house on Saturday, my plans for washing my motorbike have now been delayed until next weekend.

There’s something really nice about lounging around, reading in bed until 1pm and then spending the rest of the day doing much the same. I’m currently rereading my collection of Terry Pratchett books, I’d forgotten how funny they are.

Also watched a couple of films on TV, Saturday night’s was The Game, Sunday night I watched Sleepy Hollow. They were both pretty good, I liked the twistiness of The Game and the atmosphere of Sleepy Hollow (even if the characters did seem to spend most of their time fainting).

Hmm

Went out to the pub this evening. Walking back I felt really opressed by the hideous orange sky over Cambridge. Admittedly this place isn’t too bad, it’s just an overcast night, you can often actually see the stars.

It’s weird, I’m basically an urban person, I’ve never lived in the countryside. I still feel the need to look up and see the stars though…

The darkness never ends

Yesterday showed me that I work for a company with the right priorities. When I arrived in the morning the power was still off after Sunday’s storms. The first priority was to wire up a generator so the phones would work, the next was to set up a generator outside reception to run the coffee machine.

I managed to head back into Cambridge, do my weekly shopping, eat lunch and watch the lunchtime news before the power came back on.

It’s a bit odd all the whinging in the UK media at the moment about how thousands of homes are still without power and the trains aren’t running properly. This was a very severe storm (for the UK, obviously), a lot of damage was done to infrastructure and several people were killed.

Government inquiries aren’t going to improve anything, apart from Government popularity ratings. These things happen sometimes, you just have to deal with it.

Another quiz

I’ve been sucked in now. This one tries to work out what (if any) kind of religion you fit into, apparently I’m a secular humanist, which I’d probably agree with.

Belief-O-Matic
