Rabbit-proof fence information

Yesterday I watched the film, today I found the site of the organisation that looks after the fence.

It’s not as big as it used to be, the name has changed and it’s mostly to keep emus out these days.

Spain

I got back from my weekend in Spain at about 1am this morning and I’m in the middle of packing for a business trip to Sweden.

I get back late tomorrow night so some pictures from Spain should appear on Thursday.

One quick thing I noticed along the way: Barcelona airport has announcements in Spanish, English and Catalan, the English version even has place names mispronounced in a typical English way, for example Madge-or-kuh for Mallorca.

Slight tremor, nobody hurt

There was a tiny earth tremor in England in the early hours of this morning, in most countries it wouldn’t even be worth mentioning. Some of the comments on the BBC news site:How badly hit were you? are either funny or worrying or both.

“Ian, England”‘s comment is especially good:

I’ve never been so terrified… I called the police but they said there was nothing they could do… Why do I pay my taxes????

Next week, David Blunkett announces new Police intiative to stop seismic activity in the British Isles… Earthquake Tsar appointed… something has to be done.

Idleness

This weekend has been a very lazy one for me. All I managed to do yesterday was get my hair cut and then spend the rest of the day hanging around the house. Today hasn’t been much better, although I have been helping my housemate Al put his car’s starter motor back together.

Looking forward to next weekend when my sister and her husband are coming through to Cambridge, I’ll probably take some pictures and put them up here.

Pre-packed jam sandwiches

I just found this article in the Sunday Herald. I know it’s not that different from all the other kinds of sandwich you can buy but there just seems to be something wrong about buying pre-made jam sandwiches.

See here for a vaguely relevant song I learned at primary school.

Anniversaries

I hadn’t realised until this evening that tomorrow is a significant date for more than one reason. On the 11th of September 1973 the democratically-elected government of Chile was overthrown in a coup supported by the government of the USA.

So spare a moment tomorrow to think about those who suffered years under a brutal regime in Chile, as well as those affected by the terrorist attacks in America last year.

More time wasting links

Found a site that translates text into various dialects of English, whoohoo.co.uk.

The results are a bit grim, I’m sure the Scottish one has mostly been produced by listening to Groundskeeper Willie on The Simpsons.

What I was meaning to look for was this.

Cattle Carters

When I was down South the base had inherited from its previous incarnations a large (and largely neglected) vinyl album collection and a collection of 16mm cine films.

Most of the films were Central Office of Information newsreels but there were a few more interesting ones, one of the most popular being Cattle Carters.

Blogger code

I found this site today. It seems my Blogger code is “B1 d t+ k s u f i+ o x e l c”. I must admit a fondness for online survey things. Another example is that my Political Compass coordinates are (-6.38, -6.36). Which puts me somewhere close to Ken Livingstone, scary!
