Spanish weekend
I spent last weekend in the Pyrenees with a couple of friends and of course my digital camera.
We flew to Barcelona, hired a car and drove north to the town of Vielha, right up in the mountains. The view definitely makes a nice change from the tedious flatness of eastern England.
We spent Saturday and Sunday walking in the valleys above Arties. It’s great walking all day knowing that at the end of the day you can have a nice hot shower, a cool beer and a great meal back at your hotel.
This first picture shows Dugly (on the left) and Matt with the Restanca reservoir behind them and the valley leading down to Arties.
After a lunch of bread, cheese and gnarly Spanish sausage (the thing looked like you could club large animals to death with it) at Restanca we walked up to the next lake, which I’ve forgotten the name of.
The walk around this lake was a bit up and down and was followed by a very steep ascent, which showed us just how unfit and out of practice we are. The scene at the top was beautiful, so we stopped to admire it and have a bit of a rest.
We walked around the small lakes, down the valley at the back of the picture to the right and back round from Restanca. From there it wasn’t far to the car.
On Sunday we were feeling a little bit stiff but set off up a different valley from the same car park. This one also featured a picturesque reservoir, but fewer steep ascents.
On the whole it was a very relaxing weekend, even if my legs still aren’t quite back to normal.
