Walking in the bush

Jan joined me on Saturday morning for a walk in the bush behind the NTI campus. It’s quite nice up there, very peaceful given how close to Kaduna and the Kaduna-Zaria Expressway you are.

We stopped off in one of the small villages to talk to the locals (in a mixture of English and broken Hausa) and the usual crowd of children turned up to look at us. Sitting outside the shop drinking warm Seven-Up was pleasant, although one of the local men seemed to be trying to persuade us to buy him a bottle of gin.

I asked if it was OK to take some pictures and the men immediately started posing. The children were a little more timid at first but soon all crowded round to be ‘snapped’.

As we walked further we found some fields where tomatoes and onions were being grown, it was all surprisingly lush for the time of year.
