The site is a work in progress, the 'Album' page in each section contains some photos but only some sections have much text.

Updated January 2006: Added Mount Cameroon pictures.

What is this?

These pages contain photos and text about various bits of travelling. The pictures are generally quite small, to save space. Some of the text is based on diaries; other bits are pieced together retrospectively.

In a way several of the journeys began on 17 October 1997, when RRS Bransfield left the Eastern Commercial Dock at Grimsby bound for Halley Research Station, Antarctica.  Two winters at Halley were then immediately followed by the trips through South and North America.

If you're not interested in cold places try reading the South America section, which describes a journey almost the full length of Chile and through Bolivia to Peru.

The North American journey (also known as "Lee and Kev do the USA") covered around 10,000 miles from coast to coast and back again, during June 2000. This probably isn't what Avis usually mean when they say unlimited mileage.

Later that year I spent two months working for the French government in the Terres Australes et Antarctique Françaises. This included a brief exposure to the islands of Reunion and Mauritius and a month on Kerguelen Island.

In 2003 myself and a couple of friends went on what was supposed to be a three-week walking trip in Turkey, although June probably wasn't the best month for it.

Now I'm in Nigeria, if all goes well I'll be here until early 2007. I'm doing a VSO placement at Radio Nigeria. Occasional updates will appear on the main part of my site.

At Christmas 2005 a few of us VSOs went on holiday to Cameroon and climbed Mount Cameroon.

Legal stuff

Like most people I don't want to be all threatening but on the other hand I'd rather not be ripped off. If you want to use any of the material on these pages email me. Unless I've noted otherwise the copyright on the pictures, text, etc. is mine.

The animated flags on the links page are used by permission of Pascal Gross.

If I've accidentally used anyone else's material without permission please email me and let me know and I'll sort it out immediately.

Opinions expressed in this site are mine, don't blame anyone else for them. Which leads me nicely on to...

Your opinion

I'd like to know if anyone looks at this site and what they think of it. It'd make me very happy if you email me and let me know what you think. Is the layout too dull, is my writing awful or would you like me to link to another site?
